The greatest sci-fi trilogy to hit theaters since the first group of Star Wars films has come to a close. I wish the films could go on forever, but “everything that has a beginning has and end”, right? And this series has gone out with a mammoth, epic bang! The Matrix came out of left field in 1999 and surprised everyone. It introduced us to (the now overly-used effect of) “Bullet Time” and created a new style of action cinema. As to be expected, The Matrix Reloaded came with extremely high expectations, and nothing short of the screen bursting open and each of us getting the chance to fight alongside Neo in our ultra cool trench coats and sunglasses would have satisfied some people. Reloaded gave us more questions than answers with one giant cliffhanger, the Burly Brawl, and the best car chase scene ever! The Matrix Revolutions ranks higher than even the original on my list; it answers most of the questions, and it is just so damn intense! Staying away from specifics, I will just say that Revolutions turns the whole trilogy into the epic scaled story we knew it was capable of. Some reviews that I have read (after seeing the film) say that there are no questions answered. Those people are idiots. The answers are there, you just have to pay attention. As I said with Reloaded, you need to see these films more than once. They require it. There’s so much eye candy and jaw dropping action sequences that your brain can only handle so much. So it’s no surprise to me that many will walk away the first time (and maybe a second) missing a lot. Just keep one thing in mind: it’s a movie! It’s entertainment! Be realistic! I find it hard to believe that someone could see this movie, after seeing the other entries, and not enjoy the experience. Hands down the Matrix trilogy succeeds on all levels. Tell me you were yawning after the dome to Zion was breached. Tell me watching Agent Smith boil over with pure evil and hate had you checking your watch. Tell me that nothing affected you after the Logos crash landed. If this is true, well, I would like to see what movie gets you off because this film is so intense that during some scenes I think I didn’t even blink, or it least I felt like that when they ended. Revolutions adds to the list of classic film moments: the climatic Super Burly Brawl, the Hell Club scene, and now the best sci-fi war in film, ever. Thank you Andy and Larry Wachowski (writers and directors)! Thank you Joel Silver (producer) and Warner Bros.! Big thanks to whoever found Hugo Weaving! And thanks to the amazing cast that dedicated more than five years of their lives to this trilogy! You are all a part of film history now and I am glad you were given your chance. I saw this film at Cinemark’s Tinseltown 17 Theater on Peach Street in Erie, PA.
