The Nanny Diaries is another “fish out of water” story where we get a look into the lives of the rich and empty. While it’s loaded with plenty of cute moments and gags where Johansson gets to play awkward and feels like it wants to be the twin sister of The Devil Wears Prada; in the end it just doesn’t have the wit or the style. Don’t get me wrong, Scarlett Johansson does just fine as nanny “Annie”, but like Anne Hathaway’s “Miranda”, what made Devil stand out were the supporting efforts by Streep and Blunt. And although Laura Linney and Paul Giamatti are great actors in their own right, here their characters are just too hollow for their own good. The idea probably looked great on paper, but as a movie it’s just kind of average. If you’ve already seen The Devil Wears Prada and are looking for a decent rom-com though, this one will probably fit the bill.

I saw this film at Cinemark’s Tinseltown 17 Theatres on Peach Street in Erie, PA. Click for showtimes.
