Our Rating: 7/10

Seth Rogen and friends have really provided the one, two comedic punch of 2007 with Knocked Up and now Superbad. I can’t recall a summer in recent years where I’ve had so many laugh out loud moments. Even though Superbad’s laughs dwindle a bit in its mid-section; I still can’t imagine fans of R-rated comedy not having a blast with this show. The language is very lude and crude and won’t be a fit for some, but to me, this movie gets the high school experience right (at least for guys). It’s great to see that Michael Cera in something post-“Arrested Development”, he has great delivery and timing. Jonah Hill is pretty much hilarious in every scene, although he is stretched occasionally when he can’t rely on his usual bag of tricks (i.e. flipping out/making fun of someone). Newcomer Mintz-Plasse though had me rolling throughout and stole a lot of the scenes. He’s a funny kid and I hope he does well in future projects. While Superbad doesn’t have the legs that this year’s Knocked Up and Hot Fuzz did, it’s easily in my top 3 this year for comedy. If you enjoyed American Pie, you don’t want to miss this one.

I saw this film at Cinemark’s Tinseltown 17 Theatres on Peach Street in Erie, PA. Click for showtimes.
